🚣 Rafting the River Tay isn’t just an adrenaline rush — it’s a journey through Scotland’s literary, natural, and sporting history. Starting near Aberfeldy and flowing toward Grandtully, this stretch of the Tay is ideal for families, first-time rafters, and anyone who enjoys a splash with a view.
One highlight? You’ll float right past Killiechassie House, the private estate of Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. She purchased the property in 2001, and it’s believed to be where she completed the final chapters of the wizarding saga. The house itself is barley visible from the water, but the knowledge that you’re rafting past literary legend makes it a fun hidden landmark.
The River Tay is also a training ground for some of Team GB’s Olympic canoe and kayak athletes, who use the nearby Grandtully rapids to hone their skills. It’s not uncommon to see elite paddlers navigating the same currents, offering an inspiring backdrop to your own white water adventure.
With a mix of gentle drifts and exciting rapids, plus sweeping Highland scenery and stories from your guides, rafting the Tay is more than just a ride — it’s an unforgettable chapter of your Scottish journey.

🥃 Our visit to Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery blended rich history with smooth whisky. The guided tour took us through the heritage of the Dewar family, their innovative blending techniques, and the atmospheric warehouse where the spirit matures in oak casks. The highlight was the tasting — a curated flight of single malts and blends that showcased the signature honeyed depth of Aberfeldy whisky. Set along the River Tay, this award-winning distillery offered not just a dram, but a deep appreciation for Scotland’s liquid gold.

Aberfeldy is a lovely little town.
