Lake Bled 🇸🇮

One from the scratch off map 🗺️ ✅

Lake Bled is one of Slovenia’s most picturesque destinations, known for its emerald-green waters, Bled Island, and surrounding alpine scenery. Perched on a cliff overlooking the lake is Bled Castle, the oldest castle in Slovenia, first mentioned in 1011. The castle has served as a defensive stronghold and administrative center throughout history and now houses a museum showcasing the region’s heritage.

On Bled Island, the iconic Church of the Assumption dates back to the 17th century, though earlier Christian worship sites existed there as far back as the 9th century. Its bell tower and “wishing bell” are central features, drawing visitors who row traditional pletna boats to the island to ring the bell for good fortune. Together, the castle and church reflect Lake Bled’s deep historical and cultural significance.
