The next day, we stepped aboard something truly special: the Hermes II—a beautifully restored, over 100-year-old wooden boat that still sails the Arctic waters around Tromsø. More than just a scenic cruise, this was a journey deep into northern Norwegian heritage

Our half-day fishing tour took us past dramatic fjords and snowy peaks, all while the crew shared the incredible story of the vessel’s past and its preservation. Most notably, Hermes II starred in the 2017 film The 12th Man, where it played the role of the “Bratholm I”—a key escape boat in the story of a Norwegian resistance fighter fleeing Nazi capture during World War II.

In addition to that cinematic cameo, the Hermes II continues to celebrate storytelling, often hosting onboard film screenings focused on maritime life and the culture of Northern Norway.

We even tried our hand at fishing during the tour—caught a few ourselves—and the crew served it up fresh right on board. Doesn’t get more local (or delicious) than that.

Between the crisp sea air, rich storytelling, and fresh Arctic cod, Hermes II delivered an experience that was as unforgettable as it was authentic.
