After a cozy alpine breakfast in Engelberg, we set off for one of Switzerland’s most iconic experiences: Mount Titlis. The adventure begins the moment you step into the Titlis Xpress gondola, climbing steadily through the pine-covered slopes. At the halfway station, we transferred to the Rotair, the world’s first rotating cable car, which offers 360Β° panoramic views of the snow-draped mountains as it climbs to over 3,000 meters.

At the summit, we were immediately drawn into the shimmering blue glow of the Glacier Cave, a surreal ice tunnel carved deep within a 5,000-year-old glacier. From there, we stepped out onto the Titlis Cliff Walkβ€”a suspension bridge hanging at the edge of the world, swaying gently above a dramatic alpine drop. It was just the right level of thrill, even for those with a cautious sense of adventure.

Descending back down the mountain, we paused at TrΓΌbsee, a serene alpine lake tucked between snowy peaks. While we skipped the Ice Flyer glacier chairlift, we did take on the TrΓΌbsee Flyer ziplineβ€”a fast and fun dual ride that launched us from the hillside down to the lakeshore. Equal parts exhilarating and scenic, it was a clear highlight for the kids.

At the lake, we enjoyed a peaceful walk along the shoreline, admiring the reflections of towering peaks in the glassy water. The weather was just rightβ€”cool mountain air with golden summer sun.

By late afternoon, the landscape had completely transformed. Rolling hills gave way to palm trees, warm breezes, and Lake Maggiore’s deep blue waters as we arrived in Brissago, nestled in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino. We checked into our lakeview apartmentβ€”sun-soaked, peaceful, and just steps from the water.

From snow to sun, glaciers to gardensβ€”Switzerland showed us two of its many faces in a single unforgettable day. Tomorrow: the Italian lakes await.
