2023 Norway Snow, Stars & Stage Lights: Tromsø to London
Home
That evening, we joined a guided tour to chase the Northern Lights, and what unfolded was, without exaggeration, the most magical travel experience of my life.
We drove out away from Tromsø’s city lights into the quiet Arctic night, where the sky opened up into a curtain of stars—and then, slowly, it began. The aurora borealis emerged like a whisper and quickly became a dance. Waves of green and purple light rippled across the sky with a speed and intensity I wasn’t prepared for.
Our guide told us stories from the Sámi people, the Indigenous group of northern Norway, who believed the lights were the gods fighting in the heavens—a powerful image that felt all too real as the sky erupted in movement and color.
Even though we took photos (and they are stunning), they can’t truly capture what it felt like to be standing there, under that alive, glowing sky. It was overwhelming, humbling, and completely surreal.
Honestly, it was so perfect that part of me hesitates to ever chase the lights again—because I know how rare it is to experience something that incredible. Many people only catch a glimpse, and I feel incredibly lucky to have witnessed the aurora in all its full, electrifying glory.
A once-in-a-lifetime moment I’ll carry with me always.
