While fireworks were lighting up the skies back home, our family celebrated the 4th of July 2023 with a different kind of adventure — a road trip through the heart of the Alps. From the heights of the Eagle’s Nest overlooking Berchtesgaden, to the cool depths of the Eisriesenwelt Ice Cave, and the storybook charm of Hallstatt and Salzburg, every stop felt like a scene from a postcard. Summer toboggan runs added a burst of pure joy — a mountain-side thrill with the wind in our faces and alpine meadows rushing past.

It was a journey filled with contrasts — icy caverns and warm lakes, history and play, quiet moments in cobblestone streets and laughter echoing down mountain slopes. Our 4th of July may have traded fireworks for mountaintops, but the memories sparkled just as bright.
