Our Swiss–Italian summer adventure officially kicks off with a warm reunion at Zurich Airport (ZRH). We welcomed the grandparents as they stepped off their international flight, and we were enjoying our first taste of Switzerland.

First Stop: Lucerne

Just an hour’s drive from the airport, Lucerne is the perfect introduction to Switzerland’s charm. Our visit began with the Swiss Chocolate Adventure, an immersive experience at the Swiss Museum of Transport that delighted everyone with sights, smells, and of course—samples.

Next, we strolled across the iconic Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge), Europe’s oldest wooden covered bridge, with its striking tower and storybook murals. From there, we walked to the poignant Lion Monument, a short 15-minute walk through Lucerne’s historic streets. Before heading out, we enjoyed a peaceful walk along the Lake Lucerne promenade, taking in mountain views and watching the paddle steamers drift by. Parking was easy at Altstadt Parking just a short stroll from the action.
