Our last morning in Amsterdam started exactly how it should have โ at a famous pancake house. Thick, Dutch-style pancakes arrived at the table, both sweet and savory, and it felt like the perfect send-off meal. Comforting, filling, and unapologetically indulgent, it was the kind of breakfast that makes you slow down and savor the moment, knowing the trip is coming to an end.
With full bellies and one last destination ahead, we made our way to NEMO Science Museum, the bright green landmark weโd admired from the canal the day before. Inside, it was hands-on, energetic, and perfectly designed for curious kids (and adults). After days of history, architecture, and culture, NEMO offered something different โ a reminder that Amsterdam balances its past with a strong focus on education, innovation, and future-thinking.
We explored as much as time allowed, knowing the clock was ticking.
๐ Back to Germany
By early afternoon, it was time to head back to the station and board the train to Germany. Watching Amsterdam fade from view, it was hard not to reflect on how meaningful the trip had been. We had only just moved overseas, were still living out of suitcases in the lodge, and yet here we were โ navigating trains, bikes, ferries, and cities with growing confidence.
This short trip felt bigger than the distance it covered.
It was a reminder that adventure didnโt require perfect timing or long planning โ just curiosity and the willingness to go. Amsterdam gave us crooked houses, open countryside, centuries of history, and memories that anchored us in our new life abroad.
And just like that, our first Dutch chapter came to a close โ with pancakes, science, and a train ride home.
