The day began under a gray Polish sky, the kind that makes the scent of roasted nuts and mulled wine even more inviting. After a long drive yesterday, we finally had the morning to stretch our legs and properly explore PoznaĆâand Marley was thrilled.
We wandered through the Old Market Square, where the Betlejem PoznaĆskie Christmas Market was in full swing. Wooden stalls lined the square, selling local crafts and steaming pierogi, while the cityâs colorful Renaissance facades framed the festive scene. Marley quickly became the unofficial mascot of the morning, earning a few pats from friendly vendors as we sipped hot chocolate and watched the square come alive.
Before leaving town, we stopped at Citadel Parkâa sprawling green space that once held major military significance. Built on the site of 19th-century Prussian fortifications and later used during World War II, the park now stands as a symbol of peace. The U.S. Army trained nearby during various NATO rotations, strengthening bonds that have defined modern Polandâs security. Today, itâs a calm, tree-lined space where history and everyday life coexist quietlyâa fitting reminder of how landscapes can transform from defense to reflection.
By early afternoon, we hit the road for ĆĂłdĆș, about two hours east. Known for its creative spirit, ĆĂłdĆș surprised us with its mix of industrial heritage and art. We strolled Piotrkowska Street, one of Europeâs longest pedestrian streets, lined with sculptures, murals, and cafĂ©s that looked like they belonged in Brooklyn rather than central Poland. A quick walk through the outdoor area of Manufakturaâa former factory turned cultural and shopping complexâgave us a taste of the cityâs rebirth.
The sun was already fading as we made the final stretch to Warsaw, arriving after dark to a city glowing with the first signs of Christmas.
Warsawâs resilience feels tangibleârebuilt from near-total destruction during World War II, and today alive with color, creativity, and pride. We ended the night with a short walk through the Old Town, its cobblestones echoing softly beneath our boots and Marleyâs paws. Tomorrow, weâll dive deeper into Polandâs capital and its layers of history.
